Cooking with Kiddos

Part of our "school" includes cooking with mommy! Cooking is a great way to teach math skills, using all the five senses! Usually in our family we rotate which child gets to play with mommy in the kitchen, this particular morning was the Eldest Princess's turn!

Here we have The Princess Apple Cake:

In a large bowl combine the following:

2 cups of flour
1 3/4 cups of sugar
3 eggs
1 cup of olive oil
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt

<span class=

Chop up 2 1/2 cups of apples (we peeled ours)
Fold the apples into the mixture

Bake in a 9x13 greased and floured pan at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes.
Let it cool and then sprinkle with Powdered Sugar

Keep an eye on little fingers though.. they like to sneak pinches of the sugar :)

  1. Looks delicious! My kids love to get in the kitchen with me too. And I really should enforce the "taking turns" because it can quickly go from peaceful to chaotic with my 3 trying to help simultaneously!! Just curious, did you use any editing on these photos? I love the look of them

  2. Mmmm....looks yummy! Love kids in the kitchen!

  3. Thanks for sharing the recipe. We use our crab apples for baking and this looks great.

I agree with minivanlife's comment. I always love your photos!

  4. Thanks so much you guys! These photo's did have some editing done to them.. I use Picnik via Flickr. If you have not checked Picnik out yet you should, I LOVE it and its FREE!!!

  5. This looks so good... I think we will try this next week! We are going apple picking and I am sure that we will have plenty to do this!

It is so important to teach our children to cook..... I always have children who want to help :)
