Yes I was supposed to be doing a post on detoxing the mind yesterday but we got too busy with hooping!! The gals are right… it is completely addicting! OK so you will have to wait for more hooping goodness for later, now onto the detox talk..
“Perception is reality,” my husband tells me OVER and OVER again as I whine about how things just don’t seem to work out the way that they are supposed to! Yup Hello my name is Heather and I am a Debbie downer! I tend to look for the negative in everything AND if things are going smoothly I tend to be in wait for the big bomb to come. I finally came to a place (through selling and getting rid of our possessions) where I realized that life is too short to be living in anxiety and I needed to make a change!
I began reading books on how our thoughts effect reality, I also started looking up scripture passages.
Proverbs 17:22 says that A joyful heart is good medicine and that a crushed spirit dries up the bones… I knew that I needed to figure out how to have a more joyful heart!
“Just as a gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which he requires, so may a man tend the garden of his mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts.” This quote is from James Allen’s book As A Man Thinketh. This book has helped me learn to switch off the negative “lies” that I tell myself and focus on the positives!
Here are some tips to detoxing the mind..
1) Start a gratitude journal! At the end of the day (or throughout the day) record those positive things that occurred that made you smile! When you feel negativity taking over pick up your journal and read through it!
2) Whenever you find yourself thinking negatively, take time out to meditate! Focus on your breathing and just be silent! Stop all the craziness going on inside your brain!
3) SMILE! Wake up and put a smile on before you do anything else.. someone once gave me great advice they said, “fake it until you make it.” If you put on the smile you will be surprised at how quickly your emotions within will follow suit!
4) Read books that will encourage you to think positively! I LOVE Proverbs!
OK so have fun smiling and enjoying a new positive outlook on life!
It truly does make a difference!
I love proverbs too. so much wisdom packed in some great verses!
ReplyDeleteI love this blog and following "that crazy family".
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a gratitude journal. I actually kept one daily for three months once, and I could really see a difference in the way I thought.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I left a reply to your comment with some helpful links. :)
Awesome. I love this. It is SOOO true, and it does work. Most people don't realize they can STOP the negativity, and once they do they're much happier! Hehe, I'm one of those people ... but I'm working on it. It's really about taking a step away from oneself enough to assess the situation at hand from a distance.
