Homeschooling Loves...

BookWorm

Just a few of the reasons that I love homeschooling...

I can call anything school:

~Math lessons using the GPS!! The children figure out how much longer our rides are as they look at the current time verses the arrival time.

~Starbucks runs, "how much change will I get back?"

~Look at that opossum, why didn't it play dead for us? At least we aren't the only ones that this happened to, one didn't play dead for this woman either, he even returned to her place for a second round.

I am not limited to a location:

~Contractor needs something we load up and run over to the soon to be new home. Kids go running through the woods and exploring nature with all five senses. Yes, my son has been known to "taste" his finds.

~My children often take turns going to work with husband, taking their literature selection along with them. They also know the names of tools better than I do!

~We can go anywhere to do school, the mountains are perfect!

They get to pick their own curriculum:

Yes I let my kids choose their own curriculum (other than math since husband is in love with Making Math Meaningful and teaches it himself.)

~They choose their own literature selections but it must be somewhat challenging, the also do narrations when finishing each selection.

~Check out my eldest daughters new blog, My Storybook Notes that she has been dying to start where she will be reviewing the books that she reads. She has been keeping her own book journal for a while now (which yes I counted as school work) recording what she read and when but now she is sharing it all with the world.

Chuck E Cheese Runs are much more enjoyable with less children running around :) and workers give away free coins because they themselves are bored!

  1. I've never appreciated homeschooling more than I do right now as I "school" the kids from a bed. Flexibility is EVERYTHING.

  2. Love it! My oldest is in public school and I often fantasize about homeschooling. Although I LOVE her nature and science school, there is something to be said for being flexible and teaching using everyday events.

  3. What a fun post! We love counting everything as school - doesn't it get wild :)

Today my oldest got more than he bargained for when he asked to make cookies for math as the recipe had been halved he had to add fractions. Um, now I need to subtract some of my own weight due to all their baking.
