Why Blog?

Romania

This week I've been doing some pondering/wondering: what's the point in my blogging?

Why do I blog?

What do I hope to achieve by scribbling down these moment?

Why do I post these memories and struggles here in Cyber Space?

I was sitting at a picnic table with a very special friend today. My heart was so thrilled to be in her midst yet it ached that we only had such few hours together. You see... she lives in Romania.

As I was searching and trying to figure out how to update this friend about the RV, the house, the travels, church and our bravery...

I realized, she already knew of them all.

But how?

She had been reading my blog!

What a wonderful tool we have with this technology to keep our memories posted up for our loved ones and these special friends that aren't around to experience the daily chapters of our household.

THIS is one of the reasons that I blog.

My heart is heavy as once again we have had to say goodbye but I know that it's only for a little while.

We will meet again but until then, I write.

How about you? What reasons do you keep a blog?

  1. Great reason! I do it so the grandparents know where we are in the world. :)

  2. that is so true.  we have friends and family literally all around the world and it is so nice to be able to keep them in the loop.  my in laws live in central america, so definitely understand what you mean about catching up and being thankful for technology!

i think for me, one reason i blog is because i would love to write a book someday.  writing on a blog is one way as a mommy of 4 small boys i have the opportunity to sharpen my writing and explore the things on my heart.

my recent post: you cannot have it all

  3. "...but until then, I write."  I love this thought, Heather.  An ocean separates me from most of my family and friends.  This is one of the reasons I blog too--to let them all share in the memories but also to allow myself a space to think and to live fully right where I am.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for your kind comment!  I look forward to returning here and browsing some more. :)

  6. I found myself contemplating this very question when I first started.  Was I looking for attention?  Was I trying to become famous?  Why was I here?  What was my desire in the blog?  It was good to contemplate.  The first words I would say are "I love to write"....  My blog gives me that opportunity.  The second things I would say is that I want to share with any who come by, the awakenings of my heart... how God is setting me free from the dance of doing all the right things to be acceptable into the dance of living as one who is loved.  I'm finding the true God, not the one with expectations and requirements... I write to tell....

Love your beautiful heart, my friend and am SO thankful that you blog....

  7. Blogging with a purpose. What a gift.

I blog in hopes of encouraging others to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. For me, my life goal is to create a home that makes it impossible to not think about God. Blogging about ways in which I am making this goal a reality (along with my failures) helps to not only encourage others, but hold me accountable as well.

Not to mention, what a beautiful picture you set for the possibilities of taking the Gospel to all the nations through wise use of technology!

I've written on this topic of why I blog in a two part series on my blog. :) It's good to think about why we blog occasionally! Thanks for asking the question.

  8. Julie, your words touch my heart.  Oh what wonderful opportunities that keeping a blog offers.  If it weren't for blogs, I would have never met you or been encourage and mentored by your words.  You have a special place in my heart!
